A meeting dedicated to Dr. Ilona Dworak-Cousin’s new book “Podróż do krainy cieni” (“A journey to the land of shadows”) will be held at the library of the Polish Institute on May 17 at 11:00.

The book was written in Hebrew, translated into Polish and published in Poland. It is a collection of memories of the writer’s family from Kraków, Chrzanów and Galizia and, furthermore, Israel.

Dr. Ilona Dworak-Cousin is a doctor of pharmacy, a publicist, memory writer, poet and social activist. Since 2007, Ilona has served as the chairman of the Israel-Poland Friendship Association whose objective is to promote Polish culture in Israel. Ilona was granted two honorary awards by the Polish government.

The meeting will be conducted by Dr. Ewa Węgrzyn from the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. Dr. Węgrzyn specializes in researching the history of Polish Jews and their emigration to Israel and she is the author of a book about the so-called Gomułka emigration – the emigration of Polish Jews to Israel in the years 1956-1965. Dr. Węgrzyn will present a historical background of the events described in her book, the years that preceded World War II and the years after the war.

In addition, the writer Maria Lewińska will participate in the meeting and read excerpts from Dr. Cousin’s book.

The meeting will be held in Polish.
