A little more background material about the poets:
Few are those who know that the four legendary poets – Szymborska, Miłosz, Lipska and Zagajewski – were close to each other in their private lives and maintained close relations throughout the years. Wisława Szymborska and Ewa Lipska who was younger than Szymborska lived in the same building in Krakow when Szymborska’s was Lipska’s “mentor”. The young artist Zagajewski made a profound impression on Szymborska with his original and striking work that led to a personal and professional bond between the two. The friendship and personal ties between the four virtuosos gave rise to the title of the evening – “Szymborska and Friends”.
