Poland-Germany: Instructions for use
Photography exhibition
03-29 July

"Poland-Germany: Instructions for use" is the title of a project initiated in the framework of the Polish-German Year 2005/6 by Instytut Adama Mickiewicza, Goethe-Institut in Munich and the Foundation for German-Polish Cooperation. The Project was aimed at encouraging young artists to send works presenting German-Polish relations from different perspectives and dealing with different artistic genres. The exhibition presented in Asia House contains selected photographs and short films by 30 artists from Poland and Germany.

The presentation of the works in Israel is a mutual initiative of Instytut Polski and Goethe-Institut in Tel-Aviv – neighboring cultural institutions of neighboring countries. A visit through the exhibition takes the visitor not only on a Polish-German journey within the premises of Asia House but gives him also the opportunity to visit both institutions.

‘Demons’ – Polish-Israeli art exhibition at the Ben-Ari Museum of Contemporary Art
4 September – 30 December

A remarkable joint project between Polish and Israeli artists will function as a platform for artistic collaboration. In preparation for the exhibition, the museum will organize at least two gatherings of the artists from both countries. The outcome of these meetings the   artworks/displays – will reflect the ongoing dialogue. The title of the exhibition is intentionally ambiguous. The artists invited to participate in the project will probe these ambiguities and try to interpret the metaphor of ‘demons.’ The aim of the exhibition is to directly confront Polish and Israeli concepts of fears, impulses, ghosts, shadows, as well as history and creativity which are often understood as the process of ‘taming demons.’ Project curators, Naomi Aviv and Leah Abir, have an extensive background of involvement in the Israeli and Polish art world. During February 2008 the curators traveled to Poland for a study visit, with the intent of choosing the participating artists and exploring options for collaboration with Polish art institutes. The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue in three language versions – Hebrew, Polish and English.

‘The Chosen’ - Exhibition at the Digital Art Lab in Holon
20 September – 15 November

A group of leading Polish and Israeli artists has created a group of works for a Polish Israel Festival exhibition around the themes of messianism and the concept of ‘The Chosen People.’

Artists concentrated on the theme of Messianism as a cultural phenomenon as well as the notion that it can help explain social and cultural phenomena such as Marxism, Nihilism, Nationalism and Revolution. The invited artists, intellectuals and curators will revisit and critically investigate traditional mysticism, models of heroism, sacrifice, resurrection and salvation as well as their impact on expression through literature, philosophy and visual representations. The exhibition will be accompanied with screenings, performances, panel discussions and lectures. Later, the project will be launched at the Wyspa Institute of Art in Gdansk. Full documentation of the project will include a multilingual book of the same title with artists’ documentation as well as scholarly and essayist contributions.
