Concerts by pianist Marek Drewnowski
October 21-26

Marek Drewnowski – prominent pianist, conductor, creator and organizer of the Josef Hoffman Festival in Naleczow, and also founder of the chamber orchestra The Chopin Soloists. Known for his outstanding renditions of Chopin’s music and Scarlatti’s sonatas. He performs at all the major concert halls of Europe, the United States and Japan. With the Israeli Chamber Orchestra at the Tel Aviv Opera he shall play two Chopin concerts and Chopin’s variations from Mozart’s Don Giovanni. He shall also sappear the Ein Kerem Music Center – the concert shall be transmitted by Kol Israel.

The most charismatic string quartet of the young generation successfully promotes Polish music on the world’s stages. The quartet has performed at the London Wigmore Hall, at Carnegie Hall and at Concertgebow in Amsterdam. In Tel Aviv, the young musicians shall play works by Mozart, Beethoven, Lindberg and Karol Szymanowski on the seventieth anniversary of the death of this great artist.

The 21st International Red Sea Jazz Festival in Eilat

Tomasz Stańko (http://www.tomaszstanko.com), world-famous  trumpet player and jazz composer shall perform in Eilat together with outstanding musicians from the Simple Acoustic  Trio.

Stańko has fashioned an individual, fascinatingly efficient improvisation language and a communicative charisma all his own. He has given concerts all over the world and cooperated with top-class musicians. He has recorded some 40 albums and composed theme music to a few scores of movies. In 1994, Stańko started cooperating with musicians of the Acoustic Trio which led to their recording of the superb album Soul of Things for EMC. The subsequent album, Suspended Night, a kind of throwback to Soul of Things, was the first European track to make the list of top-selling instrumental jazz albums on the American market. Last year, the group produced a remarkable album Lontano, their third for EMC.

International master workshops “History, Music, Remembrance”

As every year, Polish musicians shall take part in workshops aimed at focusing on and commemorating the artistic achievements of the artists in the Terezin ghetto. The project enables young participants to confront history and the memory of the Holocaust through art, it inspires and encourages dialogue. The workshops shall be concluded by concerts open to a wide audience.

Olga Szwajgier – world-class soprano has sang in all major festivals of contemporary music. By means of self-devised exercises she extended her voice range from four to six octaves. She is using the unique voice compass widening method. She studied under renowned teachers Leokadia Kukawska and Stanislawa Hoffmanowa.
Her artistic achievement encompasses. She interprets operas by Ives, Stockhausen, Risset, Penderecki, Stachowski, Łuciuk, Lutosławski and also classical and baroque repertoire.
In 1989, together with three musicians and composers (Kazimierz Pyzik – double-bass, Sławomir Zubrzycki - piano, Mariusz Czarnecki – percussion instruments) she established the music ensemble - The Olga Szwajgier Quartet. The ensemble specializes in performing 20th century music including works in the field of Instrumental Theater..
 

 

 

Kazimierz Pyzik - studied double-bass, theory of music and composition at the Academy of Music in Cracow and the viola da gamba at the Nurnberg and Brussels Conservatories. He divides his concert performances into two groups – playing Baroque and Renaissance music on various types of viol da gamba and performing contemporary music on double-bass and cello. As a composer he uses, on one hand, classical forms and tonal order realized through specially constructed harmonic systems and, on the other hand, various experimental forms. He has composed around 150 solo, chamber and orchestra pieces.

This is the second time Anna Maria Jopek appears on the Israeli music scene. In March 2000, she appeared at concerts in Israel together with Henryk Miśkiewicz and Marek Napiórkowski. She is a graduate of the Warsaw Music Academy and of the Manhattan School of Music in New York. Her album „Upojenie” (Ecstasy), which she recorded with the famous American guitar player Pat Metheny, is a world-class achievement. She is performing in Austria, Germany, Portugal and Canada. She gave an extremely successful performance in Carnegie Hall. Her concerts attract wide audiences all over the world.
This outstanding vocalist, winner of several prizes and gold and platinum records will give a one-time concert in Tel Aviv together with four musicians: Marek Napiórkowski, Robert Kubiszyn, Paweł Dobrowolski and Andrzej Roman.

The Lutosławski Piano Duo is one of the leading young piano duos in the world. This one-of-a-kind ensemble on the Polish music scene specializes in one area only and namely playing on two pianos for four hands.. The pianists Emilia Sitarz and Bartłomiej Wąsik embarked on their musical journey in 1999 when they began to learn from two renowned piano duos – Bracha Eden and Alexander Tamir and Hans-Peter and Volker Stenzl.
