DESCRIPTION OF PERFORMANCE:

"Playing with Dybbuk" is a Polish-Israeli dance and movement performance inspired by the play "Dybbuk" by Szymon Anski. It is a free interpretation of this text.

In the Jewish folklore, "dybbuk" is a dead person's soul residing in a body of a living person. For the authors of the performance, "dybbuk" if a bearer of deep memories, of earnest wishes and prayers. The relation with "dybbuk" is that of a permanent play: above with below; flying with falling.

The Cameri hosts Warsaw Drama Theatre

“Diary”, after Witold Gombrowicz’s „Diary of Stefan Czarniecki”.

Adaptation - Piotr Cieślak
Stage-management – Piotr Cieslak’s team

Stefan Czarniecki, son of a Polish squire and of a rich Jewess, inherits anti-Semitic preconceptions and nationalistic phobias. Between songs about uhlans and rimes about Jews, he matures to rise in revolt against surrounding reality. Will he succeed in escaping it? Is a protest of a young man entangled in past generations’ sins still a valid warning?

Three performances only:

Saturday April 1st, Sunday April 2, and Monday April 3 at 9pm.

After Sunday’s performance, there will be an encounter with actors, and a discussion led by Michael Handelzalts, which will focus on how Gombrowicz is perceived in Israel.

Ticket at the Theatre’s Ticket Box, Reh. Shaul HaMeleh 19, tel.: 03-6060960, 6060900

March, 6, 2006, The Women Festival, Holon
Barbara Dziekan in the performance “Theatre is a Woman”.

Barbara Dziekan with words of J.L. Borges, T.S. Elliot, B. Hrabal and G. Stein tells the story of trading paradise for freedom. This story of Genesis takes various, fresh and new dimensions. Standing as Eve, Barbara Dziekan is both romantic, and nervous, provocative and sexy. The 17 vignettes that she creates with mastery throughout the performance are reminiscent of a long tale of agony, anxiety and exploration that Man had to live through in his eternal quest for Truth.
