VII International Poetry Festival in Mishkenot Sha'ananim
October 29 – November 1
, Mishkenot Sha'ananim, Jerusalem

The festival shall be attended by Ryszard Krynicki – poet, translator of among others Brecht, publisher, one of the most important figures of contemporary Polish poetry. Considered as belonging to the so-called 68 Generation (or the New Wave) which means artists who had their debut in the second half of the 60s and whose generation was profoundly marked by the political events of March 1968 and December 1970.

"Sha'ar" International Poetry Festival
November 2 – 5, Yafo, Tel Aviv

Piotr Sommer - poet and translator of contemporary American and British poetry – shall be a guest of the festival. He published a score of books: poetry, literary critique and antologies. He is the editor-in-chief of the monthly "Literatura na Swiecie" ("World Literature").

Yet another evening in a series dedicated to documenting Polish literary life in Israel. Moderator: Maria Lewinska. On this occasion, we shall discuss books written in Polish and published in Israel and we shall talk about libraries and people who form the Polish literary set.

Generation change – new subject matter, language and structure

Participants:

Poland:

Dorota Maslowska – the most popular writer of the young generation. Her first novel "Polish-Russian War under the white-red banner" is considered to be a literary sensation of the last decade. Her next book "The Queen's Peacock" was written in the rhythm and rhyme of a hip-hop song and thrills by the style and élan of its linguistic creativity.
 

 

Wojciech Kuczok – poet, movie critic, prose and script writer. His novel "Dung" earned him the Nike 2004 literature award. He belongs to the limited group of young writers who have succeeded in overcoming the restraints of generation-related style.
 

 

 

 

 

Mikolaj Lozinski – recently wrote his first and remarkable novel "Reisefieber". In the view of critics, the novel is imbued with the climate of Bergman's movies. His writing style is subdued and rigorous.

 

 

Israel:

Orna Coussin – "Ha'aretz" journalist, her literary debut was a series of short stories under the title "Picnic" that took up the issue of loneliness.
Nir Baram – author of the novel "Restorer of Dreams" that analyses the decay of cultural life in contemporary Israel.
Alon Hilu – his novel "Death of a Monk" was his debut and placed him among the five finalists of the prestigious Sapir prize.

Moderators:

Michael Handelzalc – critic, "Ha'aretz" journalist and Rafal Skapski – publisher, chairman of the Polish Publishers' Association" and director of the State Publishing Institute.

The event will be held in Polish and Hebrew at the Beit Ariel Culture Center at 25, Sderot Shaul Ha'melech in Tel Aviv and simultaneous translation will be available.

June 19, at 19.30 – meeting with historian, professor Dariusz Stola, the author of the book "Anti-Zionist Campaign In Poland in the years 1967-68".

The meeting will be held in Polish on the premises of the Institute at 42, Rofe Ha'machtarot St. 

Dariusz Stola historian with the Institute of Political Sciences at the Polish Academy of Sciences. His research focuses on Poland's political and social history in the 20th century with particular emphasis on emigration, Polish-Jewish relations, power in the People's Republic of Poland and finances of the Polish United Workers' Party. He also examines the issues of contemporary international migrations in Poland and Central Europe and he is a member of a migration research team of the Institute of Social Studies at the Warsaw University. He wrote several articles on the above-mentioned topics and in 1996, his book "Hope and the Holocaust" won the prize of the Polish daily "Polityka". Furthermore, he won the President Raczyński and Jan Gorski prizes and the prize of the "Dzieje Najnowsze". Yet another book by the professor was published in 2000 – "Anti-Zionist Campaign In Poland in the years 1967-1968".

Her guest this time will be Aleksander Klugman, a writer and a journalist.

“Literary Emigration 1956-58 – the outcome of Gomulka’s policy”


This evening will take place, in Polish, at the Polish Institute.
